Massage For Hunger Supports Hunger and Health Coalition Throughout May
During stressful times, a massage can be just the thing to center the body and mind. Lauri Whyte and Eileen Laird, along with other enthusiastic local therapist, have declared May Massage for Hunger Month. Whyte and Laird crusade against hunger this month in a fight against a slipping local economy.
Chair massage will be offered at Bare Essentials Natural Market, located at 273 Boone Heights Drive, on May 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 16, 20 and 22. The price for a massage is $1 per minute and all the proceeds go directly to the Hunger and Health Coalition.
In addition to these efforts, the following massage therapists are donating a portion of their office proceeds for the month of May to the Hunger and Health Coalition: Sharon Parton, Tim Winecoff, Kirsten Tiedemann, Lauri Whyte, Eileen Laird and the Serenity Day Spa.
The average time suggested for a chair massage is 15 minutes, but there is no minimum, and every dollar will make a difference to the community’s hungry and ill.
“We are wired as humans to help others in need. We can be truly happy when we participate in helping a community in its success.” said Whyte.
Students from the Massage Therapy program at Caldwell Community College will also be assisting in the efforts by donating their time and services. The students are nearing the end of a 600-hour, five-course program, that teaches massage therapy through hands-on and classroom experience. This course is designed to prepare students for the national massage therapy certification exam, which is required for the North Carolina licensure application process.
Chair Massage Benefits
According to Whyte, a good massage can allow for many doors to open, allowing you to explore your inner most being. Massages are not just physically rejuvenating, she said, they also touch and jar free the deepest part of the receiver’s consciousness. Just as a therapist manipulates the parts of a body, there must be balance. When you bring balance to your vessel you must also expect an adjustment of your conscious thought in order to bring harmony to its new surroundings, according to Whyte.
Tension and/or stress is expressed through sore, achy muscles, and both begin in the mind as a tiny thought. Growing in your mind at an exponential rate, these thoughts manifest into a physical form causing tight muscles, thus beginning its attack on the human body, according to Whyte.
According to Laird, a relaxing massage clears the path of many obstacles as long as the clients are open minded and observant to its energy.
