Join Biggest Loser League To Win Better Health
Only a few days remain before the start of Boone’s Biggest Loser League—Appalachian Regional Healthcare System’s weight loss and healthy lifestyles programs. The programs start next week on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 19 and 20, and require registration for a limited number of slots.
The league is a 12-week program and will be held at the Paul Broyhill Wellness Center from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Watauga County Healthy Carolinians is sponsoring the event.
Program participants can chose between two programs. Susan Bacot, a behavior change specialist and wellness consultant, will lead Team Vitality for the Tuesday class, focusing on whole foods, the importance of macro and micronutrients and significant changes in diet anyone can make to improve health. Paul Moore, a registered dietitian and assistant director of the Wellness Center, will lead Team Downsize on Wednesdays. This class will teach how to modify existing behaviors to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.
“Each session will offer a variety of motivational speakers and exciting activities including greenway walks, education classes, cooking demonstrations and professional assistance in fitness training,” said Bryan A. Belcher, manager of the Healthy Carolinians Task Force. “Once the program begins, there will be friendly competition, but no one will be voted off.”
There will be door prizes at each meeting and Boone Bike & Touring will present bikes as grand prizes to the most improved male and female in the league.
Earth Fare, Boone Bike & Touring, the Wellness Forum and Be Active also sponsor the event.
Registration is $125 for Wellness Center members and $200 for nonmembers. All participants will have membership privileges to the Wellness Center during the program.
