Memorial Day is this Monday, May 25, and, like every year, members of the Blowing Rock American Legion Post 256 are placing flags on veterans’ graves to honor their service to the country. Every Memorial Day, the Rotary Club of Blowing Rock purchases the flags and American Legion members place the flags on veterans’ graves in 15 cemeteries in eastern Watauga County and northwestern Caldwell County. In some cases, family cemeteries have been abandoned, but American Legion members still make the effort to recognize the veterans buried there.
