Watauga County Student State Winner in Soil and Water Poster Contest
Congratulations, Nate, for a job well done!
Nate Estus, a fifth grade student at Valle Crucis Elementary School, won first place in the State Soil and Water Poster Contest. Principal Wayne Eberle presented Nate with a certificate and a check for $200 in front of his classmates on Thursday. Nate will also be recognized at the awards’ ceremony at the school later in the year.
The Watauga Soil and Water Conservation District staff sponsors the Soil and Water Contests each year for grades four through eight in the Watauga County schools. The title for this year’s contest was “Soil and Water-Yours for Life”.
Nate began his journey by placing first at the school level, where he received $20. Then he competed at the county level and won $25 by placing first. The poster then qualified for the area competition, where he again placed first and received $75 and a gold medallion. This qualified him to proceed to state competition, where he received $200 for winning first place.
Donna Harmon said, “We are very proud to have Watauga County Schools so well represented in this educational program at all levels. We are exceptionally proud to have a Watauga County student bring home honors at the state level. I encourage all teachers to allow the students to participate in this very worthwhile program.”
