It is time once again for the summer reading fun to start at the Watauga County Public Library. The theme is “Be Creative,” and it all kicks off Monday, June 8, at 3:00 p.m. with an ice cream social, followed by Bingo at 4:00 p.m.
This year, participants can sign up at the library to take part, and they’ll get a reading record and activity calendar. Readers and non-readers of all ages may participate by keeping track of time spent with books. This includes reading and listening to books-on-tape, being read to and coming to the library’s Storytime each day at 11:00 a.m., but not T.V. or videos. After having logged 20 minutes a day for seven days or a total of 140 minutes a week, participants will come in and receive a prize from the Summer Reading prize and book stash at the Youth Services desk.
Each year, the Watauga County Library offers programs and events to go along with Summer Reading. Programs run from June 8 to July 23, and all are free and open to the public.
