Fjords and Friends Fun Fest June 22 to 28

The Fjords are back at the Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve June 22 through June 28.

Returning for their fourth annual weeklong meeting beginning on Monday, June 22, and ending on Sunday, June 28, is the annual Fjords and Friends Fun Fest. Held at the Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve, the group convenes each year to share information, good times and camaraderie astride their beloved Fjord horses.

Originally from Norway, Fjords are one of the oldest of the equine breeds. Short, stocky and very powerful, these little Trojan horses have a distinctive, dark, dorsal stripe coursing down their dun-colored coats along their spine. The streak originates in their forelock and ends at the tail and it is one of the features that contributes to the primitive and ancient bearing of the breed.

On Monday through Saturday, events revolving around horses and particularly the Fjords will take place each day, all day. Driving, conformation evaluation, grooming, mane trimming, trail riding, natural horsemanship, barefoot trimming and halter making are just some of the activities organizers have planned. Sunday is reserved as the day of departure, when all the participants return to their homes.

The public is invited to observe classes and events and find out more about Fjords during the fest. Some of the participants have horses for sale or know where Fjords can be purchased.

Click to FjordFest.org to view a schedule or just come by during the dates of the fest; the clinics and workshops begin at 9:00 a.m. most of the days.
