Art in the Park in Blowing Rock Saturday

More Parking Available Than Ever Before

Several potters are included among 90 juried artisans at Art in the Park in Blowing Rock, taking place this Saturday, June 13.

Art lovers of all kinds will find plenty to do in Blowing Rock on Saturday, June 13. Those looking for great art to take home with them will find Art in the Park a plethora of great finds.

Show hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm. at the American Legion grounds just behind Memorial Park. Admission is free.

Art in the Park has a history that dates from the early 1960s, when artists living in and around the village would come to the town’s park to display and sell some of their paintings or other pieces. Now in its 47th year, Art in the Park attracts artists from all over the Eastern U.S. This award-winning series features the works of 90 juried artisans in metal, fiber, watercolor and oil painting, wood, photography, basketry, jewelry, clay, glass and more.

June will mark Art in the Park’s first month in which the show will be making use of the parking area at the American Legion grounds only.

“With the new layout,” show coordinator Stephanie Keener explained, “we can contain the entire show around the American Legion and on top of the parking facility. This still opens up far more parking than we’ve ever had before and the streets will be open for traffic flow.”

You’ll find many Art in the Park favorites at this month’s show, such as Marcus Thomas, Rick Murray and Mary Jarrett. Art in the Park always features not only a mix of media but a mix of well-established artists and those just “breaking on the scene.” Of course, there are many others, each with their own unique art and individualism. Some artists will be present at every show, others only at one or two, making every Art in the Park a new experience.

The Chamber of Commerce provides free shuttles throughout the day. Just park your car at Tanger Outlet Center or the Food Lion Grocery on Highway 321 bypass and hop on the shuttle, which will bring you directly to downtown Blowing Rock. Additional Art in the Park dates in 2009 are July 18, August 15, September 12 and October 3.
