11th Annual Blood, Sweat and Gears Bicycle Ride in High Country June 27
Despite its promise to deliver pain—the good kind of pain—the 11th annual Blood, Sweat and Gears is already boasting more than 1,000 registrants as of press time. According to Watauga County Chapter of the American Red Cross Executive Director Sonny Sweet, the Full Century Route has reached its limit of 750 riders, with 125 still on a waiting list hoping for cancellations. Approximately 275 cyclists have registered for the Half Century Route, leaving roughly 225 spaces available.

Will Dicus (1990 - 2009): A Legacy of Inspiration
While most of his classmates were readying themselves for the senior prom on Saturday, May 23, Will Dicus ended up taking an unexpected trip to the hospital.
“He didn’t make it to the senior prom; he got sick and had to go to the emergency room,” said Watauga High School Principal Michael Wyant.

Like the ill-fated Isabel Czerny, you’ll feel like you too have been stabbed after a night at Shear Madness, a hilarious murder mystery comedy guaranteed to leave you in stitches. The hit show opened at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock June 10 and continues through Sunday, June 28.

2009 Watauga County Home & Garden Tour June 27—Tour Features History, Quirkiness and Innovation
The 2009 Home and Garden Tour in Watauga County will spotlight six homes and their gardens, including a 30-year-old spacious remodel, with English perennial border and koi pond; a 600-square-foot cottage directly on the banks of Goshen Creek in one of the county’s earliest tourist retreats; two historic properties once owned by some of Boone’s pioneer gardeners, now graced with new homes; a custom-built, architect-designed dwelling originally built for a practicing artist; and a charming mountain lair that grew like topsy, from its first incarnation as a woodworking shop, into a showcase for rustic whimsy.
