Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.
Watauga Relay For Life This Friday and Saturday at Watauga High
Fire, battles, explosions, romance, Daniel Boone, intrigue and history—what more do you want out of local entertainment? All of these elements combine for the outdoor drama experience known as Horn in the West, which begins its 58th season this Friday, June 19, at 8:00 p.m. As in years past, Horn’s opening weekend Photo by Jamie GoodmanWhen the sky finally grows dark this Friday, June 19, the football field at Watauga High School will be illuminated with the glow of hope and remembrance courtesy of hundreds of luminaria. Displayed on each candle lit luminaria bag will be the name of someone who lost his or her battle with cancer. Those people, along with hundreds of participating survivors will be honored throughout the evening at the Watauga County Relay For Life.
Beginning at 2:00 p.m. and lasting until Saturday, June 20, at 9:00 a.m., Watauga County Relay For Life is a community celebration designed to raise funds and awareness in the ongoing fight against cancer. The event, which is open to public, is jammed with activities for people of all ages including a dunking booth, inflatables, a climbing wall and movies. The event will also feature ongoing live performances from area musicians and dancers.
Relay teams that have been raising money for months will be on hand selling food and goods, raffling off vacation rentals and handmade goods, hosting cakewalks and presiding over a silent auction while Relay participants circle the track all afternoon and throughout the night.
Survivors on hand for the event will be honored during the annual survivor lap at 7:30 p.m. and those who lost their battles with cancer will be remembered during the emotional luminaria ceremony at 9:00 p.m.
