If it weren’t for the purple balloons festively decorating each of the dozens of tables stretching from one end of the Greenway Baptist Church gym to the other and Outback Steakhouse’s catering staff, one could easily mistake the Watauga Relay For Life’s annual Survivor Dinner for just another church social.

Boone Town Council To Vote on $19.5 Million Budget—Town Votes To Restrict Funding to DBDA
At its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, June 18, the Boone Town Council will consider approval of the recommended fiscal year 2009-10 town budget. After two budget workshops held last week and a public hearing held Tuesday, the total recommended budget stands at $19,516,542—a 4.6 percent decrease from the 2008-09 approved budget.

Boone's Oldest Tree Receives A Second Life—Meridian Timberworks Saves Tree, Gives Portion Back To Original Owners
On April 14, Stacy Eggers, Jr. stood on the corner of Highway 421 and Highway 105 Extension—on a piece of property he has owned since 1948—and watched as NCDOT crews cut down one of the oldest trees in the Town of Boone. That day marked the end of a multi-year battle to save the tree—a battle Eggers lost in the name of progress. A little serendipity via David H. Bryan, Jr., though, is showing Eggers that his battle was not fought in vain.
