Kickball Benefit for Humane Society June 24
Two of downtown Boone’s restaurants, Café Portofino and Mellow Mushroom, have decided to participate in a charity kickball game on Wednesday, June 24, at 2:00 p.m. to benefit the Watauga County Humane Society.
“There is a friendly rivalry between Portofino and Mellow, and we just thought it would be fun,” said Ashley Davis, a waitress at Café Portofino.
After deliberations on how to best help out the Watauga County Humane Society, Davis and her coworkers at Café Portofino decided that a summertime kickball game would be ideal, and the staff of Mellow Mushroom were quick to jump on board.
“Mellow is going to throw Portofino into the oven and make a crispy Kosmic Karma,” said Scott Stone, an assistant manager at Mellow Mushroom.
The game will take place at the Watauga County Parks and Recreation baseball fields on Complex Drive in Boone. There is no charge to come and watch but there will be T-shirts, food and drinks for sale. Donations will be accepted and given directly to the Humane Society.
