Contrary to popular belief, there is a cure for the summertime blues. Just head to Blowing Rock’s Hayes Performing Arts Center on Monday, July 6, and get a shot of blues and soul music at the second annual Summer Blues Festival.
Hosted by renowned blues veterans and Todd residents The King Bees, this year’s Summer Blues Fest will feature the return of eclectic Winston-Salem entertainer Big Ron Hunter and the Hayes Center debut of Mississippi blues and Southern soul legend Johnny Rawls. Longtime Bees collaborator and saxophonist Big Mike Kincaid will also be on hand to blow his horn throughout the evening. The show will start at 7:30 p.m.
King Bees guitarist Rob “Hound Dog” Baskerville said he is thrilled to be returning to the Hayes Center. In recent years, the intimate venue has become one of the best places in the High Country to see and hear the magic created on stage between he and wife/bandmate Penny “Queen Bee” Zamagni and their stellar cast of friends and blues colleagues.
“It is a wonderful venue and we’re so happy that they’re having blues twice a year and have invited us to be the hosts,” said Baskerville. “The folks at the Hayes Center have allowed us to put together some really great shows and this one is no exception.”
Tickets to the second annual Summer Blues Festival are $20 for adults and $14 for students. Purchase tickets at the Hayes Center Box Office, by calling 828-295-9627 or by clicking to www.brcac.org.
