This Saturday, June 27, Caldwell County bands Strictly Clean & Decent and The Harris Brothers will take the stage at the Blowing Rock School auditorium for this week’s installment of the Mountain Home Music series. The show is titled “Bluegrass & The Blarney Stone” and will start at 8:00 p.m.

The closer retirement came for Strictly Clean & Decent’s Patrick Crouch, the further it seemed to move away. He loved to teach his band students at Granite Falls Middle School, but he wanted more time to play his own music. He also wanted more time for his recording studio, and he wanted more for travel and more time to spend with friends. This winter and spring’s snows pushed back the last day of school in Caldwell County to mid-June, pushing Crouch’s retirement back accordingly. Weeks felt like months, he said. After 30 years of teaching, Crouch finally retired last week.
One of Crouch’s first stops as a retired man will be to play music on Mountain Home Music this Saturday.
For many years, Strictly Clean & Decent have been a part of the local and regional music scene. Crouch, his wife Kay and Ron Shuffler played country music at Shadrack’s, a former barbeque barn and dance hall in Boone; they played songs from Old Brother Where Art Thou several times for Blowing Rock’s Winterfest. The band has also been regulars on Mountain Home Music for 16 years, where they’ve played their full repertoire of bluegrass, Celtic music and Broadway show tunes. Strictly Clean & Decent also started a musician’s showcase for Caldwell County musicians, and they have traveled throughout North Carolina through the state’s Visiting Artists Program.
The Harris Brothers grew up playing and singing in a musical family in the Foothills of North Carolina. Reggie and Ryan play a wide range of music from old-time string band music to blues, country, rock and nearly everything in between. Fans of the Harris Brothers will tell you that each performance is unique and exciting, and there’s something everyone will like.
The Harris Brothers grew up in the same community as the members of Strictly Clean & Decent. They have been a part of the same concerts and know many of the same songs, but rarely perform together. This will be the Harris Brothers’ second appearance on the series.
Mountain Home Music is a concert series dedicated to honoring the music and musicians of the Appalachian Region and is affiliated with the Blue Ridge Music Trails, a project of the North Carolina Arts Council.
