Summer Sundays at the Horn Begin July 5
“Lots of people come up here to get away from it all,” said Dr. Barry Nealy, director of Three Forks Baptist Association. “[Summer Sundays at the Horn] help people refocus away from the busyness of it all. It’s a good time for reflection.”
The Three Forks Baptist Association coordinates local churches to lead the weekly services that begin Sunday, July 5, at 8:30 a.m. and run approximately an hour. Services will be held every Sunday in July and August.
Dr. Scott Courtney, the pastor at Oak Grove Baptist Church of Boone, will lead the July services, and the preacher for August services will be announced.
Summer Sundays at the Horn provide visitors and locals alike with a “chance to be dressed informally, [set aside] an early hour for worship and…have time to do the other things they want to do and still spend some time in worship,” said Dr. Barry Nealy, director of Three Forks Baptist Association.
Dr. Wayne Brown, former pastor of First Baptist Church in Boone, began Summer Sundays at the Horn in 2007. Since his retirement, the association—made up of 39 local Southern Baptist churches—has organized the services.
“They should be informal and fun,” Nealy said, adding that Horn in the West provides an ideal and picturesque outdoor setting.
“We usually have great weather in July and August,” Nealy said. “I know a lot of people…are in the downtown Boone area or plan to spend time in the downtown Boone area. Some see the [Horn in the West] performance or go to the Farmers’ Market.”
The Horn in the West Amphitheater is located on Horn in the West Drive in between Highways 321 and 421. For more information, call the Three Forks Baptist Association at 828-264-4482.
