The concert will feature several of the High Country’s best-known local and regional bands including Possum Jenkins, Soul Benefactor and Six Foot Groove with special guests The King Bees, The Worthless Son-In-Laws, blues singer Laura England and bassist Heather Paige Preston.
The show will start at 9:30 p.m. and the cover charge is $6.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit several local charities including the Watauga County Relay For Life, O.A.S.I.S., the Hunger & Health Coalition, the Watauga Humane Society and the medical relief fund for Lazybirds guitarist and banjo player Andy Christopher.
According to musician David Brewer, the show is just an excuse to get together on his birthday and make music with a few friends. A founding member of Possum Jenkins, Soul Benefactor and Six Foot Groove, Brewer has spent time on the bandstand with every act on the bill at one time or another and couldn’t be happier that so many of them are taking time out of their busy schedules to raise money for those in need.
“Last year we had a similar show at the Boone VFW and had a blast, so we did it again during the holidays at Murphy’s,” said Brewer. “With so many great players willing to come out and play and have a good time, I figured we ought to try and raise some more money for folks around the High Country. We’re all very blessed to be able to play music together, so it’s the least we can do.”
Brewer is hopeful that the night will be ripe with collaboration. While many of the musicians have played together at one time or another, several participants will likely join each other on stage for the first time.
“I’m anxious to see how it all works out,” Brewer said. “No matter what happens, I know we’ll all have a blast.”
