Holy Cross Episcopal Church Rummage Sale July 16 to 18
Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Valle Crucis will hold its annual rummage sale from Thursday to Saturday, July 16 to 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day.
On Friday, prices will be cut in half, and on Saturday, all items will be marked down to 75 percent of the original price.
The church is currently still accepting donations for the sale, such as clean, gently-used clothing on hangers, said Maggie Harmon, rummage sale publicity contact.
“We’re not selling computers or other electronic equipment [like] phones or TVs,” she added.
Those who wish to donate items may bring them to Holy Cross Episcopal Church.
Last year, the church held the three-day rummage sale for the first time; before, it was a daylong Saturday-only event.
“We found the three-day event worked well,” Harmon said. “We had people come every day looking for the same items at better prices [and we] also found that having it for half a day meant we weren’t so exhausted.”
The rummage sale proceeds go toward “a variety of purchases,” Harmon said.
The church bought a pipe organ that is currently being refurbished, and funds will also assist a member of the parish with seminary expenses and go toward paying back the money spent to refurbish St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Valle Crucis.
“We’re caretakers of the historic St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church,” Harmon said.
Last year, Holy Cross paid for the foundation and walls to be stabilized, some shingles to be replaced, work to be done on floors and a bathroom to be added. Before last year, the church only had an outdoor privy, Harmon said.
Last year’s rummage sale generated monies in the $5,000 range, she said.
Holy Cross Episcopal Church is located on Highway 194 in Valle Crucis and is a stone church with a red door and is in the same vicinity as the Valle Crucis Conference Center, Harmon said.
