Turchin Center Family Day Saturday
The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts’ summer Family Day takes place this Saturday, July 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Family Day features fun art-related activities such as chalk drawing, face painting and origami. Each of the art museum’s current exhibitions will include interactive stations related to the exhibitions. For example, the Steven Siegel: Wonderful Life exhibition of mixed media sculptures has an evolving sculpture that visitors can contribute to by adding pipe cleaners, ribbons and other materials.
“Kids love that because usually they can’t touch when they come here,” said Cindy Jones, director of museum relations at the Turchin.
Interactive drumming and dance group Eya will perform, and a costumed dinosaur mascot will be available for hugs and photos. The Turchin Center will also serve lunch provided by Bandana’s Barbecue beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Family Day is presented in conjunction with the Turchin Center exhibitions Faculty Selects 2009 featuring the Furniture Society’s Annual Student Juried Exhibition, Gillian Christy, Harlan Toole, Steven Siegel: Wonderful Life and The Halpert Biennial 2009: A National Juried Visual Art Competition & Exhibition.
