App Summer Welcomes Return of Triad Stage July 21 to 24

Preston Lane is the artistic director of Triad Stage, a Greensboro theatre company that will perform the play Oleanna and Providence Gap, a work in progress, as part of An Appalachian Summer Festival Tuesday through Friday, July 21 to 24.

An Appalachian Summer Festival announces the return of highly acclaimed regional theatre company Triad Stage to the festival’s 25th Anniversary season. Now in its third year at An Appalachian Summer Festival, Greensboro’s Triad Stage company will present two productions: a fully staged production of David Mamet’s Oleanna on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 21 and 22, and a reading of a new work in progress, Providence Gap, on Friday, July 24.

All performances will take place at ASU’s Valborg Theatre at 8:00 p.m. Triad Stage is under the direction of Artistic Director Preston Lane, who also serves as the An Applachian Summer’s artistic director for theatre programming.

Oleanna is a fully-staged production with two characters, named for a folk song reference about an escapist utopia. The play by David Mamet (creator of The Unit and author of Glengarry Glen Ross) tells the story of a power struggle between an unconventional professor with a disdain for higher education and a female student who is failing his class.

Providence Gap is a work in progress that will be presented as a free, “workshop style” reading, a semi-staged production of an original play by Boone native Preston Lane. Providence Gap blends magic, myth and music through the life of Chance Presnell, a man with what seems to be a lifelong lucky streak—until fate twists and his fortunes change.

While on campus, Lane will present a Lunch & Learn lecture titled “Stage Coach” on Wednesday, July 22, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts. This event is free and open to the public. Bring a brown bag lunch; bottled water is provided.

Tickets to Oleanna are $20 for adults and $10 for students and kids. Admission to the Providence Gap workshop is free. For tickets or more information, call 828-262-4046 or click to www.appsummer.org.
