An Appalachian Summer Festival’s single, longest-standing series, the Broyhill Chamber Ensemble is the foundation upon which today’s festival was built. Under the artistic direction of violinist Gil Morgenstern, the ensemble has presented the country’s most acclaimed chamber musicians, premièred new works and broken new ground in the world of chamber music—all the while performing the repertoire’s historical masterpieces with great flair, polish and integrity.
“Founders’ Night” features Gil Morgenstern and Frank Almond on violin, Danielle Farina on viola, Darrett Adkins on cello, Linda Chesis on flute and Shirley Irek on piano. The program will include Franz Joseph Haydn’s Divertimento in G Major; Carl Maria von Weber’s Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano; Vivo Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Assobio a jato “The Jet Whistle” and Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quintet in f minor.
A reunion concert featuring original Broyhill Chamber Ensemble musicians Gil Morgenstern, Linda Chesis and Shirley Irek, this concert pays tribute to the festival’s founders, whose vision and generosity created An Appalachian Summer Festival, and who supported it as it grew to become one of the nation’s leading summer arts festivals. A reception honoring festival founders follows the performance.
