Concert in the Park Features Minute Men Rock Band Sunday
Blowing Rock’s Concert in the Park series continues Sunday, July 19, at 4:00 p.m. at Memorial Park with the Minute Men Rock Band of the 440th Army National Guard Band. The Minute Men are a six-piece rock group who play classic rock, country and beach hits.
The full 440th National Guard Band has played Concert in the Park many times and is a popular group to hear in the park. The 440th Army Band has served as North Carolina’s National Guard Band from the early 1900s. The band was activated in WWII as part of the 30th Infantry Division, serving with distinction during the beach landing at Normandy and earning honors from France and Belgium for their actions in the Battle of the Bulge. Since then, the 440th Army National Guard Band has performed for citizens of North Carolina, the troops and their families and toured the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Morocco, Costa Rica and Italy.
Concert in the Park is now in its 22nd season. Upcoming concerts include The Triangle Tuba Quartet on Saturday, August 8; The Pipes and Drums of the Grandfather Mountain Highland Band on Sunday, August 9; the Watauga Community Band Sunday, September 13; and The Die Rhinelanders Oktoberfest Band on Sunday, October 4.
Admission is free. For more information, call the chamber at 828-295-7851. The Blowing Chamber of Commerce, Robert Hess, CPA and private individuals support Concert in the Park.
