Musician and Storyteller Mike Cross Returns to App Summer Saturday
High Country favorite Mike Cross will bring his inimitable down-home blend of songs and stories to Farthing Auditorium this Saturday, July 18.
Picking, fiddling and joking, Mike Cross lives to delight and entertain. And whether he is appearing at Symphony Hall in Boston or at an outdoor music festival in California, people across the country look forward to sharing with friends the fun of their favorite guitar-playing, fiddling storyteller.
This Saturday, July 18, Cross will perform at Farthing Auditorium. The show will start at 8:00 p.m.
There was a time when only a handful of students and alumni in Chapel Hill showed up faithfully when entertainer Cross played a local club. A self-proclaimed golf addict who went to college with a plan to marry his high school sweetheart, he gave up the sweetheart and the golf in his freshman year and took up the guitar.
Twenty years, 13 albums, numerous network radio and television appearances and hundreds of concerts later, he travels coast-to-coast delighting audiences with 12-string bottleneck blues, fiery Irish jigs and a wealth of his own music and stories filled with backwoods humor characteristic of Mark Twain or Will Rogers.
Cross is hugely popular in the High Country, where his shows sell out routinely. A festival favorite, he performed with the North Carolina Symphony in 1989, returning for solo concerts in 1996 and in 2002.
Tickets for the Saturday performance are $25 for adults, $15 for ASU students, $16 for students ages 6 to 18 and $10 for kids 12 and under. The festival offers two flexible ticket passes: the “Pick 5” offers a 15 percent discount off of ticket purchases in multiples of five; the “Festival Pass” offers a 25 percent discount and priority seating for those who purchase a ticket to each performance.

Saturday’s concert is a Schaefer Popular Series Event and is sponsored by Westglow Resort & Spa through the generous support of Bonnie and Jamie Schaefer.
