App Summer Finale Features Kenny Loggins at Holmes Center Saturday

Famous for such musical hits as “Footloose,” “Danger Zone” and “This Is It,” Grammy-winning artist Kenny Loggins will perform at the Holmes Convocation Center on Saturday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m.

An Appalachian Summer Festival tops off its 25th Anniversary season on Saturday, July 25,with the soulful, roots-centric singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins at 7:30 p.m. at the Holmes Convocation Center.

Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation sponsors this performance. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and all tickets are for general admission seating.

For more than three decades, Loggins has been inviting listeners to experience music that reaches the heart and the senses with disarming candor, authentic emotion and rich lyrical and melodic resonance. His long career has navigated diverse styles both on record and in film music—from Loggins & Messina classics like “Danny’s Song” to signature solo tracks including “Celebrate Me Home” and the Grammy-winning “This Is It.”

During the span of his creative journey, decades of hit singles and more than 12 platinum albums, one of the earliest highlights of Loggins’ career was a publishing deal that placed four of his songs on a 1970 Nitty Gritty Dirt Band LP including the Billboard-charting “House at Pooh Corner.” The timeless track became a hit on the Loggins & Messina 1972 debut LP Sittin’ In, an “accidental” partnership that ultimately produced five original studio albums, a covers collection, a greatest hits disc and two live albums. Before disbanding in 1976, the era-defining duo’s hits also included “Angry Eyes,” “Your Mama Don’t Dance” and “A Love Song.”

Loggins went on to even greater success on his own with platinum Billboard Top 40 solo debut album Celebrate Me Home. His follow-up album Nightwatch hit #7 on Billboard’s pop chart and delivered the Top 5 hit “Whenever I Call You Friend,” a duet with Stevie Nicks that is another Loggins’ songbook staple, and the 1979 Grammy-winner for Song of the Year, “What A Fool Believes.” His next album, Keep The Fire, netted another Grammy, 1980’s Best Male Pop Vocal honor for the smash “This Is It.”

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Loggins also reigned as one of the most successful movie theme song composers of his era, with massive hits including “I’m Alright” (Caddyshack), “Danger Zone” (Top Gun), Oscar-nominated “Footloose” (Footloose) and “For The First Time” (One Fine Day).

Prior to the performance, Blue Ridge Electric invites community members to a free, fun and informative event at Durham Park from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., where the public can learn about energy efficiency from displays focusing on conservation and environmental concerns. Games and activities will be available for kids, and families are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs and a picnic, or purchase dinner at the park.

Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for Blue Ridge Electric members and $5 for kids 12 and under. For tickets or more information, call 828-262-4046 or click to www.appsummer.org.
