The last concert in the season is scheduled for August 10. Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation sponsors the concerts.
Concerts are variety based and have created quite a following over the last 10 years. Early in its creation, the show was called “Farm House Live,” based off of the former restaurant in Blowing Rock that hired young college musicians to perform and wait tables. Many of the performers in the park concerts were former Farm House alumni, allowing for audiences to rekindle the memories of their favorite musical restaurant.
The concerts provide young up-and-coming musicians an opportunity to perform alongside seasoned talent. Jazz, musical theatre, country, popular opera and top 40 standards are all featured in these eclectic concerts.
The featured performer for the July 27 show is Farm House alumna Shanon Sheppard. Also returning to the park will be Craig Brown, a voice major at ASU, and on piano will be Barter Theatre musical director Steve Sensenig. The show’s director Amy Marie Young, another Farm House alumna, will also perform.
Sheppard is a Moore County native and has worked for 10 years in the entertainment and production industry. She sailed around the world with Kennedy Entertainment as a singer and dancer and then went on to become a lead headliner and cabaret artist for Oceania and Silversea Cruises.
Sheppard also enjoys regional theatre in North Carolina and has worked extensively with Opera House Theatre Company and Thalian Hall in Wilmington. She has worked with students across the state as an arts instructor and choreographer as well as with at-risk kids through her program ArtsExcel.
In 2005, Sheppard started her own voice and performance studio, Kids With A Voice. She is the youth program director for The Arts Council of Moore County and is now pursuing a degree in business and arts administration.
