Haunted at Horn’s Powderhorn Theatre August 4

On Tuesday, August 4, as part of its Powderhorn Theatre season, Horn in the West will present the original production, Haunted. Presented by Horn in the West veteran Darrell King (Rev. Isaiah Sims), and described as an evening of “spirit theatre,” Haunted features a collection of southern ghost stories presented through the arts of storytelling, music and illusion, combined to create a unique theatrical experience.
The themes of the stories are wide-ranging, from prophetic “death-dreams” to poltergeists, to hauntings.
“Many of these tales are those passed down over the years through my family,” King said, “and others range from around the Carolinas, including several that are unique to the High Country.”
A professional magician for more than 30 years, King has used his extensive experience in the art of illusion to illustrate several of the stories. Combining this art with his theatrical training, a collection of eerie tales and poetry, and traditional music sung a capella, King has created a show which has been performed to wide acclaim since 1995.
Haunted will be presented on August 4 after Horn in the West. The performance will take place on the front porch of the Powderhorn Theatre building at Horn in the West at 11:30 p.m. Admission to the performance will consist of canned or non-perishable food donations, which will go to Watauga County Hunger Coalition, although cash donations will also be accepted.
