Highway 421 Widening Work Begins

Demolition for the Highway 421 widening project began Monday, July 27, and this old apartment complex was one of the first buildings to go. As of press time, four buildings have been demolished, with another 20 to 30 slated for leveling in the upcoming weeks, according to Shane Gorry, project engineer with Blythe Development Company, prime contractors for the project. The demolition is set for buildings along a 1.1-mile span on the south side of Highway 421, from the intersection of Highways 321 and 421 to just past the intersection of Highways 421 and 194, Gorry said. McCall Brothers, a subcontracting company, is in charge of the demolition phase, and Blythe Development crews will come to Boone in three to four weeks to begin installing new water and sewer lines before paving commences.
