High Country Local Food enthusiasts High Country Locavore, Slow Food of Boone and Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture are co-hosting a screening of the recently released film Food, Inc. at the Dragonfly Theater and Pub, located at 215 Boone Heights Drive in Boone, this Sunday, August 2, from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m. Tickets cost $10.
More than a dozen top-notch musical acts will descend on northern Ashe County when the 4th annual Ola Belle Reed Homecoming Festival returns to the American Legion Memorial Ball Field and the Old Lansing School in Lansing.

On Saturday, August 15, the 54th annual Farm City Celebration will take place on the grounds of Blair Farm, located on Deerfield Road across from the Boone Golf Course. The theme for the 2009 celebration is “Growing Youth, Growing Agriculture” to honor the 100th anniversary of the 4-H Clubs of North Carolina.
Eight months ago, Fran Boyette had just moved to Boone from Florida. She and her husband came to the area because he received a job with Samaritan’s Purse.
