More Than 25,000 People Attend App Summer Events
“Iscariot,” a predominately welded steel sculpture by Greensboro-based artist Trace O’Connor won this year’s Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition during An Appalachian Summer Festival. The month-long series drew approximately 26,000 to dozens of events both on and off campus.
An Appalachian Summer Festival’s special 25th anniversary season was a resounding success according to festival organizers. The annual month-long event, which brings music, dance, film and visual arts to the High Country, welcomed approximately 26,000 attendees to the vast array of events both on and off campus.
Three shows during App Summer were complete sell-outs including performances by folk icon Joan Baez, comedian Paula Poundstone and renowned dance troupe Pilobolus. More than 800 people attended the July 3 Summer Exhibition Celebration at the Turchin Center and more than 4,500 music lovers attended the festival finale at the Holmes Center with pop and rock legend Kenny Loggins.
Greensboro-based artist Trace O’Connor won this year’s Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition with his welded steel work entitled “Iscariot.” O'Connor's work, as well as the works of 12 other sculptors, will continue to be displayed on the ASU campus—as well as in downtown Boone—until March 2010.
