Beech Mountain Announces Free Summer Events For August
Not only does Beech Mountain offer a cool respite from the dog days of August, it offers a fun schedule of free events.
The month opens with the 28th annual Crafts on the Green Festival on Saturday, August 1, and guided hikes are offered by the Beech Mountain Recreation Department on Tuesday, August 4, and Tuesday, August 18. Meanwhile, the town sponsors a Street Dance on Saturday, August 15 in front of Town Hall.
Live music is available on Sunday, August 2, and Sunday, August 9, as part of the Summer Sunday Sunset Concert series at the Gazebo Park beside Fred’s General Mercantile. The Watauga Community Band plays on Sunday, August 2, and Amantha Mill teams with Rebecca Eggers Gryder for a bluegrass and country performance on Sunday, August 9.
A movie on the lawn takes place at the Buckeye Recreation Center on Thursday, August 6, and live music will also be available on select Sunday evenings at the Beech Alpen Inn.
All of these events have no cost for admission, and are guaranteed to take place in some of the coolest weather in the Carolinas. Since 1992, the National Weather Service station on Beech Mountain has recorded only three August days when the temperature exceeded 79 degrees.
