The DBDA will host Art Crawl Presents this Friday, August 7, from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at Boone Saloon, featuring local indie heavyweights Naked Gods, Invisible Hand and Durham’s Maple Stave. The show is for ages 21 and up.The Downtown Boone Development Association (DBDA) will once again support music during its monthly Art Crawl this Friday, August 7, as it hosts the latest edition of Art Crawl Presents at Boone Saloon, located at 489 West King Street in downtown Boone, from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The concert costs $5 and features local indie heavyweights Naked Gods, Invisible Hand and Durham’s Maple Stave. The show is for ages 21 and up.
“Music is art, too,” said Mary Ella Baker, assistant director of the DBDA. “The arts in Watauga County is one of the five largest industries. We have a multitude of local artists and it’s important to remember that art is not only visual art but it’s also music. We want people to come out this Friday and support all of our local artists and these fantastic bands.”
Since 2006, Naked Gods have elevated themselves to the top rung of the local scene’s most buzz-worthy acts, performing to packed houses and diverse crowds at many local watering holes. Mixing country-rock boogie with Joe Cocker-esque lyric threads, Naked Gods and their electric stage presence conjure up sing-alongs paired with grungy melodies like you would expect to find in any indie music hall.
Having just released a follow-up—Welcome Home—to their debut EP, It Ain’t Just Cold Outside, Naked Gods are back on stage at venues across the Southeast in support of their unique sound. Naked Gods will headline Friday’s Art Crawl Presents show, joined by Durham’s Maple Stave, which is made up of Andy Hull, Evan Rowe and Chris Williams; and Virginia’s Invisible Hand, which includes Adam Smith, Thomas Dean, Adam Brock and David Bray.
Art Crawl Presents is an initiative of the DBDA to support the Downtown Boone Public Art Program. For more information on Naked Gods, click to www.nakedgods.com; on Invisible Hand, click to www.myspace.com/adamsmith; and on Maple Stave, click to www.maplestave.com.
