Stroll up and down Sunset Drive to visit art galleries and enjoy light refreshments with the businesses in downtown Blowing Rock on Friday, August 14, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sunset Stroll on Sunset Drive features art galleries, retail stores and restaurants and will continue until at least 8:00 p.m.

Morning Star Gallery will provide aperitifs while you consider fine art and craft. The gallery currently features paintings by Trena McNabb and giclees by Wes Waugh. In keeping with the gallery’s “handmade in America” tradition, it will serve sparkling wine from Gruet Vineyards.

Art & Artifacts invites you to join Kevin Beck and Suzi Cook on the patio. Both will be available to answer questions about their work. Blowing Rock Estate Jewelry and Antiques, Gregory Alan’s and Trillium Exquisite Baubles will offer hors d’oeuvres to customers while they explore the stores.

The bar at The Best Cellar will be outdoors that evening, and visitors are invited to enjoy cocktails and lawn games, weather permitting. Owners Rob Dyer and Lisa Stripling encourage visitors to make an afternoon of the event and enjoy lunch in their Ragged Gardens.

Biltmore Estate will assist with a wine tasting at Christopher’s Wine and Cheese, which displays paintings by Gisele Wiseman. Mellow Mushroom Pizza will offer complimentary beer samples from the makers of Appalachian Ale.

Hosts Jimmy and Carolyn Crippen of Crippen’s Country Inn and Restaurant will provide a complimentary taste of their pizza during the Sunset Stroll. Their cozy bar will be serving cocktails, and the front porch is a friendly place to begin the evening.

Visit DeWoolfson Down for a fragrance experience and samples with Angelina Lewis. The shop is just across the street from the Blowing Rock Grille, another good spot to begin your stroll. Retail store Jake’s on the Rock will have lemonade.

For restaurant seating, call ahead for reservations. For more information about the Sunset Stroll, contact Maggie Wilson at the Morning Star Gallery at 828-295-6991.
