PACT Hosts Wetlands Wobble 5K August 29
PACT in the High Country, the local chapter of the N.C. Wildlife Federation, will host its inaugural Wetlands Wobble 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, August 29. Registration on the day of the event begins at 8:00 a.m., but preregistration is encouraged.
Participants can register online by clicking to www.pactHC.org, and all ages can sign up for the 5k run/walk. The preregistration cost is $15 and cost on the day of the race is $18. Race-day registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the race starts at 9:00 a.m.
T-shirts are included with registration, and door prizes will be raffled on race day. To keep runners and walkers happy and well hydrated, the course will feature a water station and snacks.
Since PACT (Protecting, Advocating and Conserving Together) in the High Country was launched in October 2008 as a nonprofit organization and chapter of the N.C. Wildlife Federation, it has provided programs and workshops to the community on issues related to wildlife and habitats. Workshops include birding, vermicomposting, sustainable water use and mushroom foraying. PACT ‘s mission is to enhance, preserve, protect and advocate for all wildlife and its habitat in the High Country.
The race proceeds will benefit the newly constructed stormwater wetland on the Greenway Trail System and New River. PACT will plant more native plants in the wetland to support a thriving ecosystem and will help to monitor the wetland.
Participants of the 5k fun run can pay by either cash or check, with checks made out to PACT in the High Country and mailed to: PACT in the High Country, P.O. Box 103, Boone, NC, 28607.
