8th Annual Railroad Grade 5K Run September 19
Registration Starts Now
Registration for the 8th annual Railroad Grade 5K Run is now underway. The race is held in Todd beginning and finishing across from the Todd General Store. Participants are encouraged to enter for either competitive or recreational reasons and the proceeds from the run benefit the R. Flake Shaw Memorial Scholarship Fund. The course is on a paved road along the historic Railroad Grade Road along the New River. Fast, flat and scenic, this footrace covers 3.1 miles and is designed not only for runners, but also for seniors, children, families and parents pushing strollers. All registrants will receive a t-shirt and are eligible for a number of door prizes. The awards ceremony, honoring the top three in each age group and recognizing the overall male and female winners who will receive special awards, is to be held post-race. During the ceremony, food and beverages will be available.
The race is intended to bring awareness and support to the R. Flake Shaw Memorial Scholarship Program and Fund. Sponsored by the North Carolina Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, the scholarships also represent the North Carolina Farm Bureau’s investment in the field of agriculture. Recipients of the scholarship fund should intend to pursue a degree and career in agriculture or home economics, or be enrolled in an agriculture-related field. Offered at $3,000 per year and awarded each May, the scholarships are renewable for up to four years.
Ample parking will be available across from the Todd General Store in the church parking area.
The race starts at 9:00 a.m., though entrants must arrive a little earlier that morning. Preregistration costs $17 and $20 on race day, when registration begins at 7:45 a.m. Call Helen Moretz at 828-264-7142 or Janet Moretz at 828-264-9480 for more information or to pre-register.
