On the Same Page
Ashe County’s literary festival celebrates reading with authors Jill McCorkle, Pamela Duncan, Georgann Eubanks, Clint Johnson, John Shelton and Dale Reed. McCorkle is the featured writer with eight books to her credit, including Ferris Beach, Carolina Moon and her soon-to-be published Going Away Shoes.
“We are excited about the events we have planned,” said Jane Lonon, Ashe County Arts Council executive director. “From a community read of Jill McCorkle’s new book, Going Away Shoes, to numerous discussions and readings with well-known local and state authors, to stage performances and even events featuring cinnamon buns and barbeque! This festival is not to be missed by anyone who enjoys reading, writing, learning and just having a great time.”
Wednesday, September 16 kicks off the festival—contact the Ashe County Arts Council for special events scheduled for that day. On Thursday, September 17, join author Georgann Eubanks for a reading and question-and-answer session from her book Literary Trails of the North Carolina Mountains. Getting Started in Writing is a workshop hosted by the Blue Ridge Writer’s Group and features Eubanks.
Friday, September 18, features Cinnamon Cinema and the Good ‘Ol Girls video presentation with McCorkle and Eubanks. Holy Smoke Lunch with John Shelton Reed and Dale Volburg, plus a reading and question-and-answer session from Holy Smoke: The Big Book of North Carolina Barbeque. Smokey Mountain BBQ will cater lunch afterwards. The last event for Friday will be an author reading with McCorkle from Go Away Shoes followed by a question-and-answer session. Saturday, September 19, is the final day of the literary festival and author Pamela Duncan will provide readings and a question-and-answer session at the Ashe County Library. On the Same Plate, a lunch and panel discussion with all festival authors, completes Saturday’s agenda.
