Bluegrass and Barbeque Bonanza at Jones House September 4
Fundraiser To Benefit Watauga Arts Council
The Watauga Arts Council welcomes all to the Jones House for an evening of barbeque, bluegrass and prizes on Friday, September 4, from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m.
Kick off your Labor Day weekend with bluegrass, barbeque and prizes at the Bluegrass and Barbeque Bonanza at the Jones House in downtown Boone on Friday, September 4, beginning at 4:30 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the Watauga Arts Council.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Bettie Bond, one of the fundraiser’s volunteers.
Free music from five bands will begin at 4:30 p.m. as part of the Arts Council’s Concerts on the Lawn series. The featured bands are Southern Accent, Sigmon Stringers, Bluegrass 1101, Diana and Sarvis Ridge and Leftover Bluegrass. Mast General Store, the Downtown Boone Development Association, Alpine Storage and Bandana’s Bar B Que & Grill sponsor the concert.
Bandana’s will serve barbeque pork or smoked chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, banana pudding and iced tea or lemonade. Adult plates are $12, and kids can eat for $6. Food will be served from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Between band performances will be four themed cakewalks. Tickets to each cakewalk are $5 and include five chances to win a prize. The music walk will feature CDs, the art walk will give away original works of art, the restaurant walk will award meal coupons and the dessert walk will feature homemade cakes and other sweet treats.
“There will be several prizes every time,” Bond said.
Attendees can purchase a discount meal and cakewalk ticket that will include dinner and two cakewalk passes for the cakewalks of their choice for $20 per person.
A gallery reception for artists featured in the Watauga Arts Council galleries in September will take place inside the Jones House from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. as part of the Downtown Boone Art Crawl.
A similar fundraiser has been held at Ned Trivette’s farm in past years, but this is the first time the event will take place on the lawn at the Jones House.
Bring a blanket or chair to place on the lawn to relax while enjoying good food and entertainment. For more information, call 828-264-1789 or click to the Arts Council’s website at www.watauga-arts.org and look under “special events.” Advance tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Arts Council.
