Watauga Humane Society Pet Show Sunday
If it barks, meows, chirps or even baahs, bring it to the Boone Mall on Sunday, August 30, for the Watauga Humane Society Pet Show. The 12th annual event takes place beginning at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free, and no entry fee is required to participate.
The pet show is not a competitive show but instead an opportunity to show off your pet and learn about other pets, a press release from the Humane Society said. Past entries have included birds, cats, dogs, pygmy goats, mice, rabbits, sheep, snails, snakes, spiders and turtles.
Registration begins at 2:00 p.m., and judging will begin at 2:30 p.m. In the past, pets have received awards for longest ears, most likely to be featured in a Disney movie, most political pet, best smile, best walk and best trick. Every pet will be a winner.
This year includes a pet costume competition in addition to the regular pet show. An adopted pet parade will celebrate animals that have been adopted through the Humane Society animal shelter, Friends for Life or Animal Control. Other activities include a pet agility course, raffle and pet adoptions.
The mall requests that animals remain in the open mall area and not enter stores. All animals must be under owner control at all times, which can be dependent on the animal. Dogs must be on a leash during the event, and other pets must be in appropriate carriers when they are not being shown.
