Widespread Panic Keyboardist Jojo Hermann at Canyons September 14
Widespread Panic keyboardist JoJo Hermann favors a stripped-down acoustic sound for his side duo Missing Cats, performing a mix of New Orleans-style boogie-woogie and funk. Missing Cats performs at Canyons in Blowing Rock on Monday, September 14.
Instead of taking time off, Widespread Panic keyboardist John “JoJo” Hermann takes a six-stop swing through Southern nightclubs with his side project Missing Cats this September—all sandwiched between Panic’s summer and fall tours with the Allman Brothers Band.
The Missing Cats’ first stop will be at none other than Blowing Rock’s Canyons on Monday, September 14. The show will start at 9:00 p.m.
Missing Cats is the duo of Hermann and acoustic guitar player Sherman Ewing, a New York City-based singer/songwriter who has toured with Hermann since 2006. With only an acoustic upright piano and acoustic guitar on stage, Hermann and Ewing combine the sounds of New Orleans boogie-woogie piano with newly written songs, as well as many songs from Hermann’s solo albums with The Smiling Assassins.
Influenced by New Orleans greats Professor Longhair and Dr. John, Hermann has long been a fan of the eclectic mix of jazz, blues, soul and gospel. He and Ewing have collaborated on several new songs that will eventually make their way to a Missing Cats debut album.
“It’s going to be a little while before we actually release our first album,” Hermann said in a press release. “Right now we are kind of barnstorming and woodshedding, just hitting the road and getting it together, and having a good time at it.”
The September 14 show at Canyons is open to ages 18 and up. A limited number of $15 advance tickets are available at Canyons and by phone at 828-295-7661. Should any tickets remain on the day of the show, they can be purchased at the door.
