Boone VFW To Host Benefit Concert Featuring Soul Benefactor Saturday
This Saturday, September 19, VFW Post 7031 in Boone will host a benefit for member Martin Cushey featuring local rock n’ soul sextet Soul Benefactor. The band will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. Admission is a $5 donation.
Cushey, a veteran and longtime member of the VFW, is currently suffering from cancer and has not been able to seek treatment because of financial constraints.
Formed in 2007, Soul Benefactor has spent the last two years burning up venues throughout the High Country. With decades of experience under their collective belts, the group of multi-instrumentalists mines the deep grooves of recordings from the 1960s and 1970s, breathing life into the songs of Marvin Gaye, Billy Preston, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Booker T. & The MGs, The Meters, Bill Withers, The Allman Brothers Band, Derek & The Dominoes, Tony Joe White, Joe Cocker, CCR, The Rolling Stones and many more.
