Horn Hosts Apple Festival October 3, Haunted Horn October 22 to 31
Mark your calendars—Horn in the West is hosting two special events on the grounds this fall. The Southern Appalachian Historical Association’s annual Apple Festival and the spooky haunted Halloween trail, Haunted Horn, will be coming to Horn in the West this October.
Horn in the West, the nation’s oldest outdoor Revolutionary War drama, ended its 58th consecutive season on August 15, capping another successful year for the cast and staff. It was also an exciting year for the Hickory Ridge Homestead, the Horn’s on-site living history museum. The museum was showered with praise and donations this year, Davy Davis, the museum curator, said, and all of the volunteers have worked very hard to make this year a success.
Now that the season is over, the Horn looks to other events, like SAHA’s annual Apple Festival. A one day event, the Apple Festival is in Boone on Saturday, October 3, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Located on the grounds of Horn in the West and the Hickory Ridge Homestead, the festival includes live music from Kevin Carter and Full Assurance, Son Road Bluegrass Band, Neil Wilson and others to be announced.
Local vendors will set up shop in the Hickory Ridge Homestead, selling baked apple goods, home-style meals and local arts and crafts. Fun activities for the whole family will include air walks, apple cider making, basket weaving and face painting. The Apple Festival is free to all guests and donations are gladly accepted.
Later in the month, Horn in the West will bring Haunted Horn back to the grounds to spook and scare visitors on its haunted trail for Halloween. The event takes place on October 22, 23 and 24, again on October 28, 29 and 30, and on Halloween night. Brave guests will wander along the trail, being surprised with ghouls and ghosts, scared by butcher knives and chainsaws. Because of content, the trail is not recommended by children age 9 and younger. Please call Horn in the West for prices and information.
