Reel Rock Film Tour at Lees-McRae September 24

Climbers, outdoor adventure enthusiasts and film lovers should trek to the Lees-McRae College campus in Banner Elk on Thursday, September 24, for a free screening of the Reel Rock Film Tour.
The Lees-McRae Rock Climbing Club and Competition Climbing Team are the hosts of the screening, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in Evans Auditorium at the Cannon Student Center. The 4th annual Reel Rock Film Tour will travel to more than 100 cities around the world. The Lees-McRae showing is free and open to the public.
Four films will be featured at the screening. Progression tells the story of the world’s best climbers and their efforts to advance the sport, with names like Chris Sharma, Kevin Jorgeson, Patxi Usobiaga, Johanna Ernst and Tommy Caldwell.
First Ascent: The Series is co-produced by Sender Films and Nat Geo Adventure Channel. The series features top athletes attempting unclimbed walls and peaks around the world, from Patagonia to Brazil to Yosemite and beyond.
The tour will also screen the two winners of the Reel Rock 09 Filmmaking Competition, which are selected by voters online.
Reel Rock founders Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer have produced and directed climbing and adventure films for more than a decade. In 2008, the Reel Rock Film Tour featured more than 90 shows and 20,000 attendees and raised more than $10,000 for local and national nonprofits.
Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 828-898-8729 or click to www.reelrocktour.com.
