ASU Students Attempt to Break Blood Drive Record Again September 29
Community Members Invited To Take Part in Free Event
On Tuesday, September 29, ASU will host the 3rd annual 1,000-Pint Blood Drive at the Holmes Convocation Center on the ASU campus from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Last year, the collective donations reached 1,060 pints, breaking the state record for the most donations collected at a single event.
This year’s blood drive is organized by seven undergraduate students, with the help of Kate Johnson, assistant director for community service at ASU.
“All donors are welcome,” said Johnson. In an effort to break last year’s record and move up from the tenth spot nationally, volunteers are needed, not just to donate blood, but to help set up before the drive from 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. There are sign-up sheets available online by clicking to www.specialevents.appstate.edu for anyone interested in donating or volunteering.
To prepare to donate blood, Johnson cautioned, “It’s important to hydrate.” Also, be sure to eat iron rich foods such as red meat or dark, leafy greens.
To register for a time to donate blood, to volunteer to help with set up or to get more information, click to www.specialevents.appstate.edu or call Johnson at 828-262-3032.
