Solid Gold Homecoming at ASU October 9 and 10

Weekend Features Pep Rally, Dances, Parade, Step Show, Parties and Football

The football game is just a part of the Solid Gold Homecoming weekend that will happen on Friday and Saturday, October 9 and 10, on the ASU campus.

Events are planned for both days that revolve around the 3:30 p.m. game on Saturday, October 10, against North Carolina Central in Kidd Brewer Stadium.

“The best word to describe homecoming is electric,” said Kimberly Stark, assistant director of alumni affairs. “Everyone is excited to be back in Boone.”

Stark said it’s tough to track down the total number of people who return to the school for homecoming activities. While there is a sign-up for some events, Stark said that sometimes people show up who don’t sign-up.

Stark estimated that “several thousand” people return to town for the weekend.

The ASU Alumni Association is trying something new with the homecoming dance.

The event, the Friday Night Fever Homecoming Dance, will be for students and alumni this year.

It will take place at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, at Legends, with beach musicians Band of Oz and DJ Chad Sain performing.

Stark said that this is the first time the dance has been open to students. Tickets for alumni are $15 in advance and $17 at the door, while current student prices are $8 and $10, respectively.

The event will start after the Spirit Under the Lights Pep Rally and Lip Sync Finals at Duck Pond Field, which starts at 6:00 p.m. on October 9.
“We want to appeal more to younger alumni,” Stark said. “We know that a large part of the homecoming population is people who recently graduated.”

There will also be an alumni breakfast, parade, tailgate party and post-game party as part of homecoming festivities.
