The Greater Avery Tour de Art Saturday

The Greater Avery Tour de Art is here to stay with two more events planned for 2009. The Tour de Art takes place at 12 participating galleries and studios in the Foscoe, Banner Elk, Linville and greater Avery County areas on the fourth Saturday each month through October.

A map of the entire tour is available at each location, and directional signs help guide gallery tourists along the 105, 184, 194 and 221 highways. For more information about the Tour de Art, call 828-963-7246.

Rowan, who resides in Johnson City, Tenn., has been painting for 40 years and has been influenced by Van Gogh and O’Keefe. She paints animals, landscapes, flowers and people in a loose, expressionistic style.“My intent is to create a well-designed work of emotional impact, a balance of intellect and intuition, technique and ‘happy accidents,’” Rowan said.

“I have always loved animals,” Rowan said. “I’m interested in animal intelligence, especially companion animals. I just think that think that this unspoken language between people and their pets is really interesting.”
