Art in the Park Closes 2009 Season Saturday
New Art Honors Parkway’s 75th Anniversary
“Courthouse Valley Overlook” is the third in a series of colored pencil drawings by Teresa Pennington commissioned for the 75th anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway in 2010.
The 47th season of Blowing Rock’s Art in the Park will come to a close this Saturday, October 3. One of the High Country’s premier arts and crafts events, Art in the Park features nearly 90 artists in media that ranges from wood turning to oil painting.
Located at the American Legion grounds in downtown Blowing Rock, Art in the Park runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission to the show is free, and a trolley runs from the Tanger Shopping Center or the Food Lion Shopping Center to take attendees downtown.
This Art in the Park will feature a special unveiling of work from North Carolina artist Teresa Pennington, whose colored pencil drawings feature the Blue Ridge Mountains. Pennington is working on a series of drawings for the 2010 75th anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway and will introduce the latest in this series at Art in the Park.
The title for the new image for the Parkway is “Courthouse Valley Overlook.” Courthouse Valley Overlook is located at Parkway Milepost 422 and overlooks the French Broad River in the distance.
Part of the proceeds from the purchase of the work will go to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation. The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation will be on hand at the show, offering information about efforts to protect the Blue Ridge Parkway and the 75th anniversary celebration.
Art in the Park is a great place to find unique Christmas items before the Christmas rush. A complete list of artists can be found by clicking to www.blowingrock.com/artinthepark.
The following day, the Watauga Community Band will perform at Memorial Park at 4:00 p.m. as part of the Sunday Concerts in the Park series.
