Ashe County Arts Council October Events Roundup

Summer may be officially over, but the Ashe County Arts Council is still going strong for fall by hosting a string of events during October.

Ashe County Little Theatre Presents Twelve Angry Men
Friday to Sunday, October 2 to 4
Ashe Civic Center
Entrusted with the power to send or not to send an ill-educated, teenaged Puerto Rican boy from the tenements to the electric chair for the murder of his father, 12 jurors are locked together in a room on a sultry summer day until they arrive at a verdict. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Best of the Blue Ridge: Juried Fine Art Competition and Exhibit
October 8 to November 19
Ashe Arts Center
Visual artists residing in Ashe, Allegheny, Watauga, Wilkes, Grayson and Johnson counties are eligible to submit original work executed within the last three years. Paintings, drawings, hand-pulled prints and mixed media works will be accepted. The exhibit opens October 8 and runs through November 19.

Blue Ridge Chamber Players
Sunday, October 18
Ashe Arts Center
On Sunday, October 18, the Blue Ridge Chamber Players will present an afternoon of chamber music at 2:00 p.m. Selections include the Schubert String Trio in B flat, two-part inventions for violin and cello by J.S. Bach, Bartok’s duos for two violins and the Faure Piano Quartet in G Minor, op. 45. Admission costs $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Missoula Children’s Theatre Auditions
Monday, October 19, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Ashe Civic Center Auditorium
The Missoula Children’s Theatre will host auditions for the play Jack and the Beanstalk at the Ashe Civic Center auditorium on Monday, October 19, at 3:30 p.m. Children aged five through 18 years are encouraged to attend the audition, with no advance preparation required. Roles to be cast are Jack, Mother, Milky White, the Magic Harp, Farmers, Merchants, the Giant Jill, Circus Performers and the Magic Beans, plus assistant directors will also be chosen.

Saturday, October 31, 7:30 p.m.
Hensley Hall at West Jefferson United Methodist Church.
Admission at the door costs $10 for adults and $5 for students.
