Grandfather View Village Hosts Free Block Party October 9
Event Includes Live Music, Food, Drinks, Various Sales

A block party will take place at Grandfather View Village, located on Highway 105 in Foscoe, on Friday, October 9, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The free event is open to the public and features food, drinks, live music and some unique sales and specials offered by various businesses within the mall.
The event is designed to give High Country residents and tourists, who may be coming to the area to see the colors of fall or to watch the ASU homecoming football game against N.C. Central, a time and place to enjoy themselves and learn about the businesses located at the mall.
The block party is the first of its kind for the small shopping center, and all the businesses are coming together and taking part in hosting this event for the community.
Liz Roberts of Stone Cavern, a company that specializes in ceramic, stone, porcelain, metal, glass, marble and many other home coverings, is coordinating the event and said that part of the idea of the block party is to draw attention to the little shopping center and let people know that there are some interesting businesses therein.
The mall is open to two new businesses, and four out of the seven businesses are either new or being started by young entrepreneurs in the community.
“We want to let Boone see there are young people up here trying to make things happen,” said Roberts.
Boone Barr, for example, already sells products in 11 to 15 locations around the area, as well as some locations in the other parts of western North Carolina. However, not too many people in the community are aware of the existence and purpose of this local business, said Roberts.
Businesses within Grandfather View Village include Kind Grind, an organic coffee shop; Boone Barr, a local entrepreneur starting his own energy bar business; Ultimate Kitchen, a business for kitchen design; Capehart & Washburn, a home design business; Yum Yum Fabulous Foods To Go, a place where food is ordered to go; Mountain Lumber; and Stone Cavern.
All of the businesses are relatively new, the oldest one being there just five years.
The food and drink businesses will offer samples to the public, and the other businesses will be running specials on various products.
No specific group or groups for live music have been pinned down as of yet, but Roberts is working to get something exciting and enjoyable lined up for those attending the block party to listen to.
