The political signs are popping up on street corners, and municipal elections in the High Country are only one month away.
Elected officials and administrators from the High Country’s municipalities, Watauga County and ASU came together to hear presentations on healthcare and parks and recreation last Monday, September 28, at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center.
Hundreds of farmworkers come to the area from Mexico each year from March to November to work on Christmas tree farms, and the local Farmworker Health Program strives to offer them a critical service they would otherwise have little or no access to: basic healthcare.

This weekend is bursting with sweet celebrations of the apple in and around the High Country. With apple festivals taking place at the Hickory Ridge Homestead in Boone, downtown Erwin in Unicoi County, Tenn., and in North Wilkesboro, apple options abound.
Don’t miss a hauntingly good time as Tweetsie Railroad celebrates the 20th season of its Ghost Train Halloween Festival. This spooktacular event begins this Friday, October 2, and runs every Friday and Saturday night through October 31.
