Photo by Sam Calhoun Residents and bluegrass music lovers will gather at Horn in the West, located at 591 Horn in the West Drive in Boone, this Sunday, October 4, from 12:30 to 6:00 p.m. to raise money for Boone Police Officer Bradley Swift, who is battling leukemia. Admission to the inaugural Neighbors Helping Neighbors Bluegrass Music Benefit is free but donations will be accepted to help Swift cover medical expenses associated with his recent illness.
Fortunately, Swift’s leukemia is now in remission. However, Swift is unable to return to full-time work while recovering—a daunting prospect for someone with many outstanding medical bills.
Several local bluegrass bands heeded the call for support and will perform on Sunday, including Son Road Bluegrass Band from 12:30 to 1:10 p.m., Kevin Carter & Full Assurance from 1:15 to 1:55 p.m., Surefire from 2:00 to 2:40 p.m., Boone Trail from 2:45 to 3:25 p.m., The Dollar Brothers from 3:30 to 4:10 p.m., Southern Accent from 4:15 to 4:55 p.m. and Jimmy Trivette & Friends from 5:00 to 5:40 p.m.
In case of inclement weather, the event will take place at Brushy Fork Baptist Church, located on Highway 421 North in Vilas. To confirm the change of venue if inclement weather occurs, call the church office at 828-297-2524 on the morning of the event.
Horn in the West staff will provide food for purchase during the event, including pizza, chips, candy and drinks.
