Let Murphy’s Take The Chill Out of Fall
Live Music Every Weekend in October
Winter is sneaking up on local residents but Murphy’s Restaurant & Pub, located at 747 West King Street in Boone, is planning plenty of live music to keep locals warm and dancing the night away throughout October. All bands will take the stage beginning at 10:00 p.m. each night listed.
The music offerings begin this Friday, October 9, with Corleone, a Nashville trance-rock-soul outfit, that brings a beat that is sure to ready the Mountaineer fans for their Homecoming weekend. Taking the stage this Saturday, October 10, is Velvet Truckstop, formerly known as Rufus Grove, who will welcome fans of 1990’s music back to Boone.
On Friday, October 16, Corduroy Road, an Athens-based band and Boone locals Possum Jenkins will perform alternating sets throughout the night.
On Friday, October 23, the new Tater with David Vai graces the stage for a set sure to please the crowd by bringing home its mountain sounds.
On Saturday, October 24, Murphy’s will host Thacker Dairy Road—two young girls that bring high-energy beats to the stage, so be ready to dance.
And last but not least, Halloween weekend will feature Lost Ridge Band performing on Friday, October 30. These guys are a local favorite and need no introduction. Halloween at Murphy’s will be wide open as Blount Harvey, a group from Greensboro, opens the night followed by Boone All Stars.
On the subject of Homecoming weekend, John Rush, Murphy’s music promoter, said, “Murphy’s is one of very few bars that has friends coming back for homecoming. Murphy’s and other Boone bartenders learned the buddy/babysitter/bouncer aspect of bar service before we were able to learn mixology.” Rush was a bartender during the 1990s and recalls hearing the band Rufus Grove playing over 10 years ago and plans on being where he was at that same time, behind the bar, serving friends and listening to music from a shared past.
Rush also said that Lost Ridge Band will also be headlining Murphy’s New Years Eve party, and a raffle of 50 tickets will be up for grabs. To register for the raffle, visit Murphy’s any evening starting the 50 days prior to New Years Eve at around 8:00 p.m. Each night will feature a free raffle ticket drawing; ticket holders must be present to win.
