Owen Smith Performs at Legends October 22

Nationally known comedian Owen Smith will perform at Legend’s on Thursday, October 22, and tickets are $5 for students in advance or $8 for students at the door or for guests. Guests may not purchase advance tickets.
The doors open at 9:00 p.m. and the opening act will be an “amateur joke-off,” said Randy Kelly, APPS program advisor. Ten audience members will each tell one joke, and whoever tells the best joke wins tickets to the next show at Legend’s, Kelly explained.
The joke-off was held prior to Smith’s performance at Legend’s two years ago and put the audience in a lighthearted mood even before Smith took the stage, Kelly said, adding that Smith was well-received at ASU in his previous performance.
“We had a packed house then and everyone loved it,” Kelly said, adding that he hopes for an even larger turnout at this year’s event.
According to a press release, Smith provides fresh takes on race, politics, relationships and society, and his compelling six-foot-five-inch frame combined with his truthful, primal and unapologetic approach to his craft gives him license to lead his audiences on journeys they may not normally take with other comedians.
Men are simple. If she’s fine, we’re thinking one thought. We’re like: ‘Damn! I’d hit that.’ And if she’s ugly—if she’s ugly –we’re like: ‘Damn, oh! I’d hit that.’

With performances on Comedy Central’s “Chocolate News,” and multiple roles as both a writer and star on the hit Chris Rock sitcom “Everybody Hates Chris,” Smith is quickly gaining notoriety.
Last fall, Smith filmed his own one-hour comedy special titled “Owen Smith: Anonymous” for both television and DVD, and currently, Smith has three national commercials running—for Fiber One, Verizon and McDonald’s.
The McDonald’s “Cha-Cha Slide” commercial is so popular that Oprah Winfrey featured it on a show, according to a press release.
Smith’s other television appearances include: “Crossing Jordan,” “Monk,” “Gilmore Girls,” “Premium Blend,” “Star Search,” “Latino Laugh Festival: The Show,” “HBO Comedy Minutes,” “Montreal Just For Laughs Festival,” “The Orlando Jones Show,” National Lampoon’s “Funny Money,” NBC’s “Friday Night” and BET’s “Comic View.”
The show is BYOB with a six-pack limit for those with a valid ID.
