The Best of the High Country, For a Good Cause

Get Tickets Now for Peabody’s 31st Anniversary Charity Wine Tasting Expo

Socialize, sample food items from top-notch area restaurants and sip on an impressive array of wines at Peabody’s 31st Anniversary Charity Wine Tasting Expo, which will take place on Saturday, November 14, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in The Powers Grand Hall and Alumni Hall at The Broyhill Inn and Conference Center in Boone.

“I have been told so many times it’s the social event of the year,” said Jeff Collins, co-owner of Peabody’s Wine and Beer Merchants.

Peabody’s distributors, importers and wineries attend, bringing about 200 different types of wine to the event, Collins said.

The cost is only $45 per person, and proceeds benefit the Watauga Education Foundation.

“The Watauga Education Foundation provides grants to area schools who can’t get funding for projects they want to do,” Collins said. “[Their work] really helps the local community.”

Tickets are usually gone by the day of the event, so organizers encourage attendees to purchase tickets soon.

Tickets can be purchased in person at Peabody’s, located at 1104 Highway 105 Bypass in Boone, or by credit card over the phone, in which case, the tickets will be available at the will call box on the day of the event.

To purchase tickets or for more information, call 828-264-9476.

One Leg Up, a gypsy jazz band based in Asheville, will perform at the event.

“Everyone who comes gets a commemorative etched wine glass to keep,” Collins said, and attendees also each receive a tasting book, which makes it easy to find the wines you want to try amid the many choices.

“It’s handy to be able to see all the wines that are there in print form,” Collins said, adding that people can take note of the wines they especially enjoy over the course of the evening and later purchase bottles at Peabody’s, which offers its best prices of the year after the event until the end of the year.

The Gamekeeper, Best Cellar, Canyon’s, Char, Crave, Stick Boy and the Broyhill Inn will cater food for the charity wine tasting, and Collins expects an additional six or seven restaurants to confirm their participation in the near future, he said.

The Broyhill Inn and Conference Center will offer $89 room rates in conjunction with the event, Collins said.

For more information, call 828-264-9476.
